The Solo Traveler's Guide to the Tides Inn

July 31, 2025

Solo travel is in right now. Whether you’re seeking some time alone or just can’t get your calendars aligned with your significant other or friends, there are plenty of ways to enjoy solo time at the Tides Inn.

1. Reserve a waterfront room.

Make yourself at home in our recently renovated Water View King guest rooms, which
have picture windows that frame Carter’s Creek (plus Fili d’oro 400 count linens and

Nespresso coffee makers).

2. Learn a new skill.

Follow your interests and take home a different kind of souvenir: a new talent. Join an

oyster shucking or wine tasting class or visit the Maker Space for a session on the

pottery wheel.

3. Borrow a bike.

Hop on a complimentary e-bike and take a spin through the charming town of Irvington

and some of the fascinating historic sites in the area.

4. Go on an excursion.

Solo travel can sometimes feel a little lonely. Find some friendly companionship by

joining one of our immersive outings with a small group of fellow guests. Take a boat ride

to explore Urbanna, go for a sail, set crab pots with our resident ecologist or sip your

morning coffee while cruising the waters. (Find all of our offerings here.)

5. Find some Zen.
The Tides Inn Spa is a place of pure relaxation. Reserve a massage, facial or body treatment to help you fall deeper into vacation mode.

6. Get sweaty.
Move your body during a morning stretch on the lawn, one of our fitness classes like Shoreline Sweat or Paddleboard Yoga or a stroll along the Shoreline or Forest Trails

7. Play a round of golf.
Warm up on the driving range before pulling up to the first tee at the George W. Cobb-designed Golden Eagle Golf Course. The course is known for its exciting elevation changes and well-placed bunkers.

8. Order whatever you want.

There’s no one you need to share dishes with (or giving you side-eye for ordering

dessert), so go all out. Nab a spot at a picnic table overlooking the creek at Fish Hawk Oyster Bar or pull up to the bar at Salt & Meadow for well-balanced cocktails and freshly caught seafood.
